The Changes to Conferences

Ali Peck

We all know how stressful conferences can be the first time around, but get ready for another round for the second semester. Second conferences are new to the NCDS community this year. Conferences are scary enough, because meeting with your teachers in a one-on-one conversation with your parents can be nerve-wracking. We all thought that conferences were a one-and-done kind of thing, but earlier this week, a letter was sent home informing parents that they have a second opportunity to meet with teachers. This round of conferences will work in a new way. This time, you sign up for teachers that you want to talk with about progressions for next year. Personally, I think when a letter is sent home and your parents see a new conference, you know you are going to have to meet with all of your teachers.

Although the conference experience can be scary, the second conference could be a benefit to students. The first time around, you might have been scared because you didn’t know the teacher, but now you should be comfortable meeting with the teacher since you are over halfway through the school year. Conferences are a good way to see where you are and how to get to where you want to be by the end of the term. Having extra time to meet with teachers one-on-one is a good way to build a strong connection, discover ways to improve in the class, and talk about course selection for next year.
